Iceland in summer

Iceland Just a short update today. It’s been raining cats & dogs here in Bavaria. Perfect time to get caught up on photo & video editing. Earlier in August, I posted some photos from a visit to the Little-Hrutur volcano in Iceland. Following those two days, I went on a whirlwind five day trip along the South Coast of Iceland. The crazy abundance of beauty wherever you look has a drawback though: People like me are easily tempted to create more footage than you could realistically deal with later. Sifting through that and cutting it was a bigger task than …

The fabled Sa Calobra climb

Sa Calobra The cycling community is ripe with discussions about famous mountain passes and climbs. Pretty much every athlete either dreams of conquering specific climbs or has stories of mountain passes to tell. Some climbs are (in)famous for their difficulty. Others are beloved because of their beauty. The Col dels Reis on the Spanish island of Mallorca belongs to the latter category. Better known as Sa Calobra, the road twists and turns through a rugged mountain landscape like a snake. The top features a crazy loop at the top called ‘the tie’. Riding the pass with the GoPro Hero 10 …

Ibiza – Post lock-down

More and more countries are starting to ease travel restrictions as the Covid situation improves across the globe. We were most certainly delighted to jump on a flight to Ibiza a few weeks ago. The island was quite empty and many hotels were still shut down. It was almost a bit eerie in certain parts. Nevertheless, we did enjoy our stay as we got to enjoy the beauty without the usual crowd of party tourists that usually frequent this place. Ibiza Impressions Here is a short video with impressions from the gorgeous Spanish island.

Turning to videos

Covid has dramatically restricted our ability to move around and explore. Even day trips have become somewhat difficult in Bavaria due to the limited options and the mass of people seemingly targeting the same places on the weekends. My personal drive to engage in photography has therefore also declined. However, I recently rediscovered videography. Video Videography offers so much creative potential. Technology has also come around tremendously in recent years. Captures that are possible today were limited to professionals just ten years ago. My beloved GoPro is a powerhouse of creativity and versatility. Likewise, 360 cameras such as the GoPro …

The DJI Mavic Pro in the Canary Islands

DJI Mavic Pro As a photographer I have always been fascinated by aerial imagery. Getting a drone was therefore a tempting idea. However, until recently most drones were just too big to be practical. The popular DJ Phantom, for example, requires a full-sized backpack or suitcase. This is just not my style. Over the past few years, I have made every possible attempt to shed weight from my equipment which is why I sold all of my beloved Nikon cameras and moved to Fuji. Personally, I want my gear to be so compact and light that I feel compelled to …

Garmin Virb – Video quality

Garmin Virb Video A few weeks ago, I posted a review of the Garmin Virb action camera. While I mainly use it for taking photos during a run and or bike ride, most people are probably more interested in making videos. The purpose of this post is to expand on the review and to show a quick example of the video quality of this camera. Epic Cycling Most cyclists know that you sometimes experience rides that can only be categorized as ‘epic’. I am still savoring the memories of a bunch of those rides. Unfortunately, in the past it was …

A Garmin Virb Review

The Garmin Virb Action cameras are amongst the hottest items in the electronics market these days. The GoPro camera totally revolutionised the video segment and made action-oriented videography affordable and accessible. Since then many other companies have entered the market. One of them is Garmin – best known for their GPS devices. A little while ago, they released the Garmin Virb Elite action camera. The specs are probably not as impressive as those of the upper level Go-Pro models but Garmin allows you to connect any kind of ANT+ sensor to it. I hone a very pleasant addiction to running …
