Cascais: Where Sun, Surf, and Secret Agents Collide!

Intro

Today, we embark on a thrilling journey to Cascais, a picturesque coastal town in Portugal that has captured my heart and even caught the attention of international spies. With my trusty Fuji X100V & GoPro cameras in hand, I set out to explore the gorgeous town and its beaches while also looking to walk in the footsteps of 007.

Cascais – A Slice of Paradise

Nestled on the western edge of the stunning Portuguese Riviera, Cascais boasts breathtaking natural beauty and a rich historical heritage. The town exudes a laid-back atmosphere, making it a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. As I wandered through its charming streets, I couldn’t help but marvel at the well-preserved architecture, the colorful houses, and the delightful mosaic patterns that adorned the sidewalks.

Unleashing My Inner 007

As I mentioned earlier, Cascais has an unexpected link to the world of espionage. It happens that this town was major hub for international spies during WWII. And non other than famous author Ian Fleming got inspired to write his first James Bond novel at the Hotel Estoril. Also, several iconic scenes from the 007 movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” were filmed in this very town.

Guincho Beach

One of the highlights of Cascais is undoubtedly Guincho Beach, a magnet for surfers and beach lovers alike. With its vast stretch of golden sands, crashing waves, and the backdrop of rugged cliffs, Guincho Beach provides the perfect setting for stunning photographs. Also, the opening scenes of the famous 007 movie were filmed here. Guincho is an amazing experience throughout the day. The light in the early morning hours is magical and soft. The sunsets are simply legendary.

Adventures Beyond the Beach

While Guincho Beach stole my heart, Cascais has much more to offer than just sandy shores. The town is a gateway to numerous outdoor activities and adventures. From exploring the stunning Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, with its enchanting forests and majestic palaces, to taking a leisurely bike ride along the scenic Atlantic Coast, there is no shortage of ways to satisfy your wanderlust in this coastal gem.

So pack your camera, unleash your inner secret agent, and embark on an unforgettable journey to this captivating Portuguese gem. Happy travels!
