A few weeks ago, I acquired one of the new Fujifilm X70. Finding a small enough camera that produces really awesome results has always been one of my quests. Unfortunately, to this date I have not found something that I really love. And that’s when the Fuji X70 entered the scene. It seemed small enough while featuring the amazing Fuji image quality. To make it short, I was not disappointed. As a matter of fact, I love this camera and wrote about using it on a run earlier this week. This post is not intended to be a full review but rather a quick preview.

The Fuji X70 at a concert
Last weekend, I went to see the Sisters of Mercy in concert. Bringing a camera into a concert hall is not easy these days – most security guards will confiscate anything that looks like it could produce decent results. This is where the Fuji X70 comes into play – it’s small enough to fit into the pockets of my Jeans. And it looks rather harmless. Check!

The Fuji X70 sports a fixed 18mm lens. This is certainly not perfect for concert photography but you can still capture some interesting perspectives. There is no zoom-lens but who needs that anyway? đ

Image quality is pretty amazing given the size. I do not see any difference between the Fuji X70 and the Fuji X-T1 or X100s/t. The APS-C size sensor does a great job per usual. Some of these photos were taken at ISOs above 1600. None of them have been altered in Lightroom – they are jpegs straight out of the camera.

One thing I really like is the touch-screen. It’s super easy to focus and the camera is lightening fast. The conditions were anything but good for the autofocus – the Sisters of Mercy love their fog machines. But the silhouettes alone provided enough contrast to deliver sharpe images.

It was a fun evening and I really enjoyed test driving the Fujifilm X70. Stay tuned for a a full review in the next month. The gallery below features a few additional images from a different concert (Fields of the Nephilim). These were taken with the Fuji X70 as well.
