Spring at the Italian Lakes – Lago di Garda

Lago di Garda

One of the benefits of living in Munich is the proximity to Italy. That’s why I jumped in the car two weeks ago and ended up at the beautiful Lago di Gard 3.5 hrs later. Lake Garda is located in the northern part of Italy. It is a popular destination for many Europeans. It’s easy to understand why: the area is simply stunning. While I spent most of my time on a road bike, I did have the opportunity to take a few photos here and there. While on the bike, I used a small Garmin Virb Action Camera. Off the bike I had the opportunity to test the new and insanely popular Fujifilm X-T1. I will write about both cameras in a few weeks. Here are some of the photos from the short trip.

Bella Italia

Here is the view from the northern side of the lake. Stunning. When you see this, you know for sure: Hello! Time for a vacation

Lago di Garda

Drive a few miles further down south and your will reach the town of Malcesine. It features a cool looking castle. It was especially attractive this time of the year because of the snow covered mountains in the background:

The castle looks great from the front and back. Here is a night shot from the other side:

Malcesine itself has a lot of charm: narrow cobblestone streets, colourful houses and tons of small cafes and restaurants.

Garda-1 Garda-2Biking

The main purpose of heading down to Italy was to go road biking. The fabulous Garmin Virb did a nice job of capturing some of the moments. I continue to be amazed by how good some of those actions cameras are. Very decent quality.

“Stuff”

While sitting on the terrace of my hotel room I noticed an interesting tree. I waited for the sun to go down to add some sparkle to the scene. Kind of looks like a witch, doesn’t it?

And here some additional photographs from different places by the lake.

What about the Fuji X-T1? Looooved it. Great camera. But as always: The best camera is the one that you have with you.
